“It’s more than just a dress; it’s a spirit. The wrap dress was an interesting cultural phenomenon, and one that has lasted 30 years. What is so special about it is that it’s actually a very traditional form of clothing. It’s like a toga, it’s like a kimono, without buttons, without a zipper.” – Diane von Furstenberg
Say hello to the wrap dress as Somerset Jane would have it.. Ours isn’t quite like DVF’s in that it isn’t made out of jersey (we don’t like clingy fabrics much here at SJ), and ours doesn’t exactly ‘wrap’. The belt, attached at the waist wraps around to cinch in our feminine shape and create a faux wrap effect. The brilliance about the design is it’s ease and it’s comfort. That’s the wrap dress in general really, but I needed to simplify and update this classic under the SJ tag and I think we’ve done that. Dress with ease, dress up, dress down, come Summer, come Winter this dress has you covered! Everyone needs a classic ‘go to’ for those days when we have nothing to wear. Caitlin Moran said, “When a woman says ‘I have nothing to wear’, what she really means is, ‘there’s nothing here for who I’m supposed to be today’.” That’s when those investment pieces in your wardrobe come in handy, we can’t be expected to look exactly like we know who we are every single day surely?! We’ll use our fashion sense and style the best we know how and on the off days, fall back on timeless classics. ‘Cos if you’ve lost yourself for a day, aren’t those two things you’d like to be, even if by default? Yes, timeless and classic. And that’s a wrap.. The SJ Winter Wrap dress is available now at Edgar’s Melrose Arch XSAFW Capsule collections.
